Where do you visualize your character fitting in to the post-war wizarding world? After being used as a Death Eater Punching bag, Dawlish asked Kingsley Shacklebolt to remove him from the Auror listing. Kingsley refused telling Dawlish that he just needed more training. Now Dawlish is a senior Auror and much in the same grain of Mad-Eye Moody carrying on the 'CONSTANT VIGILANCE' motto.
What do they do? He's an Auror.
Does your character have any hopes, motivations, dreams or desires? To one day erase the memories of failure while being Confounded.
What are some struggles your character might undergo? Because he is not a hero of the light and widely known to be a victim of Death Eaters, Dawlish is often the butt of many jokes and resents that fact. He is also very bitter that he was not able to help with the fight against evil, every Auror's purpose in life.
What are any existing personal relationships that your character might have?
Dawlish due to his emotional unbalance from constantly being a victim is not close with anyone. Kingsley Shacklebolt is the only individual in which John Dawlish will claim is a close friend.
What's a secret that your character has that he or she has never told anyone? He sympathized with Voldemort thinking him a victim of society until his lot made HIM a victim.
Short third-person POV roleplaying sample:
Dawlish was tired as he entered the Ministry of Magic. Everyone lately had ignored him but a few, a few he had taken down under Death Eater instructions remembered and laughed as he walked by. He would never live that nightmare down until he could once again prove to the world that he did earn the right to be an Auror.
First-person POV journal entry: It was a mess today in the Ministry with Amos harping on and on about his department and Mafalda there arguing as well. If Kingsley hadn't stepped into the meeting at the moment that Amos called Mafalda a hag I swear hexes would have been flying. Why oh why didn't Kingsley just let me go?
Is there a canon dialogue you feel best represents your character?
"I've got to say, Dirk I'm surprised to run into you. Pleased, but surprised. Word was you'd been caught."
"I was," said Dirk. "I was halfway to Azkaban when I made a break for it, Stunned Dawlish, and nicked his broom. It was easier than you'd think; I don't reckon he's quite right at the moment. Might be Confounded..."
How does your character feel about muggles? Muggle born witches? Pure bloods? Half-breeds? Muggles are people too just without magic. What's it matter that they're different? World would be a bit boring if everyone were the same. As for those that have the ability to do magic, why should they be seperated into Pure, Half, or Muggle Born? We all have magic so we're all the same. Besides I know a few Muggleborns that could kick any Purebloods arse any day.
Does your character mix personal dislike with politics? No, if that were an option wouldn't have been easily blinded by Minister Fudge or Dolores Jane Umbridge.
What reforms would your character like to see? What returns to tradition? It's time that we loosen up the laws concerning Muggleborns and Half-Bloods. As far as tradition goes magical creatures should not be allowed the use of wand magic.
Would they like to organize a group around a belief? Secret or public? Who the hell has the bloody time to organize a group if you're trying to do a job and do it well? Only individuals that want less work and slaves put into this kind of dream.
Who do they want to be Minister of Magic? Kingsley Shacklebolt of course. Nobody could do a better job and earn the respect necessary for the Minister. Besides, he has it in good with the Muggle Prime Minister.
Who are they afraid of? What are they afraid of? No so much a who as a what, anyone willing to cast a Confound or Imperius on others because that means they have no honor.
What's one person or thing they hate against rational reason? That there's a right time and place to use the Confound or Imperius curse. Yeah, try asking the victim if anytime is a good time.
Is there a conspiracy they believe is true or gossip about? Used to believe that Albus Dumbledore was holding out on information. Now there's nothing interesting.
What rumors does your characters seek out? What rumors do they spread? Seeks out those that continue to claim he wasn't confounded but pretended to be to stay out of Azkaban. Doesn't spread any rumors.
Disclaimer: I do not own the character of John Dawlish that is JK Rowling. Also I'm not Colm Meaney who's image is being used as Dawlish.
